Summary
Having been a Professor of Medical Statistics for 19 years at the University of Sheffield I have much experience of teaching medical statistics, designing trials, analyzing data and sitting on review boards.
Standing in the Research Community
Member of an Appraisal Committee for the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence for 10 years. 2000-2010. This involves appraising the evidence for medical innovations and met monthly.
Member of the Health Services Research Board for the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) 2010-2015. This commissions research on health services and has an annual budget of £5M.
Served on numerous other committees such as the MRC Fellowship Committee and the NIHR programme grants committee.
Member UK Research Assessment Exercise Panel 12 (Professions Allied to Medicine) which evaluated research in academic communities in the UK in 2008.
Currently do pro-bono work for the Lullaby Trust Research (Sudden Infant Death), the CONI (Care of the Next Infant) subcommittee of the Lullaby Trust. and the Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Society (SANDS).
