28 June – 1 July 2027
We are honoured to be co-hosting the International Society for the Study and Prevention of Perinatal and Infant Death (ISPID) conference 2027 with our friends at The Lullaby Trust and 2wish.
This world leading conference brings together researchers, healthcare professionals, bereaved families, advocates and public health leaders from the UK and overseas to improve understanding, prevention and care following sudden infant and child death.
Families are warmly welcomed. Whether you have lived experience or work in research, healthcare or bereavement support, this conference provides a unique opportunity to learn, connect and help shape the future.
The conference will be held at the University of Birmingham and the theme for 2027 is Evidence, Empathy and Action – bringing together science and lived experience to create safer futures for children and better support for families.
More information, including registration will be announced soon. Abstract submission now open! Closes 22 November.
Association of Child Death Review Professionals Conference
3-4 November 2026
SUDC UK is once again looking forward to attending the national ACDRP Conference this November. If you are a professional with an interest in SUDC, we encourage you to book your place today. Led by the Association of Child Death Review Professionals (ACDRP), this annual conference is a fantastic opportunity to network with colleagues, gain fresh insights, and feel inspired to continue supporting bereaved families while working together to prevent child deaths. The conference takes place on 3–4 November 2026.
PIONEER- Opportunity for bereaved parents to help shape SUDC research
Researchers from the University of Bristol are inviting bereaved parents to learn more about taking part in the PIONEER Study, a project exploring sudden unexplained deaths in childhood through the experiences and perspectives of families.
Parents who choose to take part would be invited to a one-to-one interview with a researcher to discuss their child, their understanding of what happened, and any questions or thoughts they may have. Participation is entirely voluntary, and families can take time to decide, ask questions, or withdraw at any stage. Support will be available throughout.
To learn more about how you can support this project through funding or family participation, please contact info@sudc.org.uk and read the PIONEER Family Interviews information booklet.
QUINTET
We are delighted to share this opportunity for SUDC UK registered families to help improve care for bereaved families.
SUDC UK is proud to be a Co‑Investigator on the QUINTET Project, ensuring that the experiences of bereaved families are at the heart of this important research.
Earlier this year, we contacted families who were eligible to take part in interviews. There is now a further opportunity for registered SUDC UK families to share their experiences by completing one of several available surveys.
The purpose of the research is to find out how family’s lives are changed after the sudden and unexpected loss of a child, the effect this has on their health and wellbeing, and how effective the investigations, care and support provided was. Knowing this will improve the care and support provided to bereaved families in the future, helping to ensure that all those affected by the loss of a child can access the right support at the right time and in the right way.
Participation is open to families who have been bereaved for more than nine months. There is no upper time limit, and families can choose to take part this year whenever it feels right for them.
